
The mansion burned like a funeral pyre under the storm-black sky.
Flames roared through the gothic windows, licking the stone walls, swallowing the velvet curtains and the portraits of long-dead faces. Sirens wailed closer—red and blue lights pulsing across the rain-slick lawns—but the fire moved faster. Beams cracked. Towers groaned. The entire structure seemed to scream as it died.
